Novothink Surge Solar Charger For IPod Iphone
We have had solar battery chargers before for you electronic devices. Lots of them may involve the hassle of trailing cables and plugs. IF you have an Apple iPod or iPhone then this new solar solar sleeve from Novothink may solve your problems.
The device lets you slip your iPod inside the cradle while still allowing you access to all needed functions. Turning the case around you are presented with a small integrated photovoltaic solar panel that keeps an internal battery topped up and thus keeping your iPhone or IPod fully charged.
This device could theoretically keep your Apple device topped up without ever needing to use any eternal charging. Should you need emergency power a USB port is available.
Specs of the device are an output of 5.5V at 100mAh for the attached solar panel and the internal battery has a 1500mAh capacity, This is slightly more powerful than the batteries currently used in the iPod and will more than double the amount of playback time before needing a recharge. Although with the solar cell mounted in the sleeve the battery will be continuously charging whenever it is exposed to sunlight.
The case does bulk up your device making it a bit larger and this may not be in line with the intended personal image of having a slim line looking iPod or iPhone. Colors of the charger come in black, blue, green for being eco-friendly and lastly pink for that striking contrast.
Some iPhones have been reported to have issues with overheating and as this device needs exposure to the sun to charge itself up. This might end up causing problems for some people. Removing the iPhone and exposing the sleeve to the sun to charge is possible but that will actually defeat the intention of the device. A much more practical solution would to be use a universal solar charger that will be usable on all your devices and not just Apple products.
Currently these are the only devices officially licensed by Apple and are not compatible with older versions of the iPod. The Novothink Solar Surge is available for the iPod Touch with a cost or around US$70 and a version for the iPhone 3G arriving later in the year.

Novothink is ahead of the pack with the Apple Certification but you can bet that someone else is going to make something very similar. It will be up to their branding whether they survive or not.
