Solar powered gadgets are getting more common today that they will soon become the standard to have a solar powered function. The latest gadget or accessory to be powered by the sun is the wristwatch.
Nixon have introduced the Volta range of solar powered watches which is the company’s first rechargeable range. Stylish with the photovoltaic solar cell hidden under the semi-transparent watch face that keeps the watch powered up in practically any light, even indoor lighting will keep this topped up with energy.

The Volta range comes in various styles of watch straps and faces including leather. For those more adventurous types the solar powered watch is waterproof to a depth of 100m although there might not be much solar energy at those depths.
If you watch is running low on power it has its own build in energy saving function. To avoid completely running out of batter power and failing to keep the time accurately, the Volta will slow down the update of its second hand. Instead of ticking every second it will tick every two seconds while still keeping time. A quick burst in the sun will rejuvenate the watch back in to full mode.
This is not a plant saving device, the amount of power needed to drive a modern electrical watch is very small. But with a cost of around US$200 its an ideal stylish replacement for your current watch that doesn`t shout at you with a big photovoltaic solar panel strapped on to your wrist.
