Solar News Around The Globe

Hot Water Shower
Quebec, Canada
The provincial government of Quebec has announced a pilot financial program to aid the installation of solar panels for residential property owners. The government hopes to help as many as 600 homeowners install solar powered hot water heating systems in their homes in the next year subsidizing the installation by up to 50 per cent of the costs.
The solar hot water panels are used to preheat water for domestic use in bathing, dish washing and laundry. The consumption of hot water accounts for around 30 per cent of a home’s total energy use. This would reduce the effects on the environment and result in lower energy bills for the consumer.
Vermont, Usa
The state has introduced feed in tariffs for alternate energy sources. The expected rates for energy producers are $0.30 per kWh for Solar; $0.20 for wind and $0.12 for methane derived from landfill or agricultural operation . By guaranteeing a rebate for electricity produced from alternate sources the tariff will help way in expanding the development alternate energy sources. It`s currently unclear if the state will expand the tariffs to residential produced energy.

Concentrated solar power
Felton, Queensland, Australia
The Queensland Government is mulling a proposal from the “Friends of Felton” for a ban of coal mining in the area. The Felton Valley, south west of Toowoomba, is the target of Ambre Energy which hopes to build an open cut coal mine along with a power station and petrochemical plant in the area.
Large tracts of land would be contaminate and have dire consequences for the local area. In return the “Friends of Felton” have asked the Government to set the area aside for renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power.
