Warming up to Chinese Solar Power Stations

In a bid to speedup the development of solar power station, The Beijing government has stated that it will cover 50% of the set up cost for large scale solar power systems that generate  more than 500 megawatts of electricity. The amount raises to 70% for stations built in more remoter regions of China.

China is a major producer of CO2 gases and hopes to produce up to 15% of its energy needs from renewable sources by the year 2020.

Producing 500 megawatts is large scale and with energy output equivalent to a coal powered powered station it would need a large take up to make headway to the 15% target. With the 50% cost reduction solar power station can compete on a much more equal footing.

It is unclear whether the subsidies would be only available to Chinese companies or Solar Panels made in China.
