Solar Lights Outdoors in Your Greenhouse
Lighting your greenhouse with solar power.
Solar lighting indoors – well this time not powering the lights in your house, how about using solar powered lighting inside your greenhouse. Most greenhouses are situated ideally to capture the sun by their very nature, but also mostly that means at the bottom of your garden. The down side of this is again a length of cabling and dealing with high voltage currents. There is a ray of hope in solar lighting.

Greenhouse Solar Lights
The quick and dirty method of a few dangling self contained switch able solar lights can be a good source of illumination for that quick potter about in the greenhouse when dusk starts to fall. The green house obviously being made of glass or some of the modern plastics are transparent and allow the photoelectric rays of the sun to pass through and can easily keep a few solar lights charged up ready for use.
For a more robust and powerful system an exterior solar array would be needed. Mounted on the roof of the greenhouse itself which should already be situated to capture the best of the sun, this can provide a higher capacity for your lighting needs. With suitable battery kit and lighting installed inside your greenhouse this does involve a bit more installation that just dangling a self-contained light. But its not beyond the means of any weekend DIY dabbler.
As no mains power is involved and kits being readily available, the lights could be shining the same day as you purchase the kit. Should you need more light then it’s just a matter of installing more arrays, batteries and lights as needed to achieve the desired level of illumination and duration of usable light.
Using solar lighting this way is not ideal for every situation, but for many set-ups this would be an adequate alternative. As with all solar powered systems the running cost is non-existent as all energy comes from the Sun. If your thinking about a greenhouse or already have one then considering installing solar lighting will make you just a little bit more greener than just your thumbs.
As with anything electrical, make sure you are adequately familiar with the procedure or obtain advice from a professional installer.
